Review on πŸ“» RGTech Monarch Indoor AM/FM Antenna, High Performance 60 Mile Range Multi-Directional Reception Radio Antenna by Dave White

Revainrating 5 out of 5

BETTER THAN EXPECTED.

I have a very nice Sangean HDR-18 HD FM radio that has a great tuner (and fantastic sound) but comes with a telescopic whip antenna. The stylus only gives mediocre reception, so I tried to find an indoor FM antenna that would improve reception, particularly on some of the classic low power stations in my area, and saw some good things about this antenna. The price, I thought what the heck (you also get a pair of plug converters which, when bought separately at the store, cost almost the same as the antenna!). Well I'm impressed. After a bit of fiddling to find a sweet spot, I was able to get a stable, "full quiet" signal with no hiss from a 250-watt station (ERP) 16 miles away. I also started listening to other stations that I couldn't hear clearly before. You have to understand that this antenna can be very directional. You may not be able to stick it in a window and get a strong signal from every station you want. The window may not be pointing in the right direction or at an awkward angle. Luckily I live in a wooden house and didn't have to put the antenna in the window; it's behind a bookshelf on the outside wall (where it picks up the signals I need better than if it were in one of the two adjoining windows, one west and one north). antenna and tape it to the window (using the built-in tape). Experiment with placement both on and near windows first, especially if you're in a frame home. Even if you're in a steel frame apartment where you must use a window, try out as many different positions on the glass as you can before you tape it in place. The antenna can work horizontally or vertically, but experiment to see what works best for the stations you want to receive. Luckily, the antenna comes with 15 feet of coaxial cable, allowing for more flexibility in antenna placement.
