I think the lifespan of a laptop is heavily dependent on the operating temperature of the processor. So I've always used a cooling pad. It's designed to fit in my computer bag (thin and light) so I can take it with me when I travel. One of the dangers of using a cooling pad, since it's usually set to support the PC at an angle to allow for good airflow, is that the PC can slide onto the floor underneath. This cooling pad has a pull tab on the front edge that can be lifted. This prevents the PC from slipping off the surface of the pad. Good idea; thoughtful design.
