This is a good filter but it was *much* taller than expected. It may be a delivery error. The one I received was taller than it is wide, contrary to what is shown on the product image. If you don't care what size you get this will work fine, but I didn't realize I got the wrong product until I put it in the tank (and for my purposes a big one is fine). This type of Bacto Surge filter comes in different sizes; Just don't expect to fall short when you order that particular product. The weighted base is enough for me to be secure, but it can wobble a bit if you don't have substrate (my axolotl won't eat gravel or sand until it gets bigger). Also remember that they are great for biological filtration but will not remove large residues like a hanging or canister filter and this is by design. Also, I knew about the diameter when I bought it, but pay attention and imagine how much space it will take up in your aquarium! It's quite large for my 10 gallons (but axolotls produce a lot of waste so it's worth it for me).
