I've been touring since the early 70's so my comments are based on the prospect of traveling long distances and hauling lots of cargo. the weight. First, Schwalbe touring tires are more durable and have more predictable handling than any other brand I've tried. And Schwalbe's best touring tire is the Marathon Mondial. I tried the Marathon Plus Tour (MPT) and Marathon Plus (MP) tires because I also drive 20 miles to and from work in the city every day and these tires offer the best protection. The main difference between MPT and MP is the aggressive advantage of MPT. On tour, an aggressive edge comes in handy when you've accidentally or deliberately veered off the pavement. The MPT is more stable and gives you a safe off-road feeling. On the downside, the MP is faster, quieter, softer on pavement but has poor traction on soft shoulders or dirt roads. MP and MPT are great for travel, but Marathon Mondial is the best because it combines the best of MPT and MP. It's fast, strong, carries weight well, and is resistant to aircraft. The edge is aggressive, giving a confident pavement feel. The edge is so aggressive that it seems to climb streaks and curbs a little faster than one would expect. UPDATE 5/2016: These tires worked very well for a few years, then the cycle of spontaneous rim blowouts and fractures began. . I had to throw them away as there was a lot of gum left. After searching the internet, I found that this issue is specific to the Marathon Plus Tour. My Marathon Mondials worked perfectly at the same time. I changed the rating from 5 stars to 2 stars because it worked very well but only for a couple of years.
