I like this kit because it's quick and easy to install. The kit includes double-sided tape to attach the door and batteries for the sensor. You need AA batteries for the motion sensor/base. However, the magnet worked well to let the sensor know the door was closed. I'd say it's about 1/2 inch from the sensor and still works. If you're in a situation where your door doesn't sit flush, you can improvise with a magnet. I used small bar magnets. earlier on the doors where the jamb was a problem. I also included small round magnets embedded in the wood of the doors that don't line up. So if you have a door that doesn't exactly match the jamb, get creative. are basic kindergarten skills to set this up. The on/off function of the remote control works very well. I like simplicity. I leave the device in "Home" mode most of the time since I'm at home all the time. a detector that wakes me up at night when someone opens the doors. I wouldn't call a siren deafening, but it's definitely loud enough to wake up a sleeping person in the same room. She makes a dog bark.
