I like this kit because it's quick and easy to install. The kit includes double-sided tape to attach the door and batteries for the sensor. You need AA batteries for the motion sensor/base. However, the magnet worked well to let the sensor know the door was closed. I'd say it's about 1/2 inch from the sensor and still works.
