Review on Bosch D3324 Distance Plus High Performance Oil Filter: Unleashing Optimal Engine Efficiency in a Single Pack by Timothy Cole

The BOSCH filter belongs to the medium and high quality filters. Has M20x1.5 on top with nitrile seal. 20 micron filter media with a 14-18 psi bypass from a stamped steel spring at the bottom of the filter element. the element can hold up to 14 grams of dirt/chips etc. In other reviews I have noticed a tendency to say "this filter is heavier than other filters and should be better", yes it is a heavy filter. However, the added weight comes from the fact that the threaded top with oil ports is about twice the thickness of the comparable Napa Gold. This has no effect unless your oil pressure is 100psi (usually 40) and you're worried about burning your filter. The extra thick head can make it feel better than other filters. Just my thought ;-) Pros: large filter in canister Silicone check valve Metal filter element with metal liner and cap Cons: cellulose paper on filter element (synthetic is better) Stamped steel bypass (better to have a real spring, like Nappa Gold in the photo) Filter paper 20 microns (better than 15 microns) My opinion: a good filter. I like the large element size. Compared to the Napa Gold in the picture, I'll take a larger filter element rather than a better pleated and smaller Napa Gold element change.
