Great deterrent

With this chain and lock I am sure that my bike will not be stolen. It's heavy, so I wouldn't take it on a mountain bike or on long trips. It's great for short jobs though. It's too big for my small panniers, so I like to pack it in my backpack for a quick ride around town. The rest after parking my bike is worth it. But the best and for me by far the most important use of this chain/lock is to protect my bike at home when I go on a long trip. If the thief knows you're not home, they may take more aggressive action to try and steal the bike than if it were outside and in the open in front of potential onlookers. But when he sees that heavy chain and padlock wrapped around a joist supporting the garage ceiling, which is the floor of a large upstairs attic laden with heavy objects, he'll probably decide it's not the risk is worth. trying to steal the bike. Trying to cut this strong lock/chain would take too much time and noise too; and it would be extremely risky to attempt to cut through the support beam holding up the garage attic. This bright, durable chain lock serves as a great deterrent that will scare off just about any would-be thief (most of them hurried tinkerers) and therefore gave me real peace of mind when I got separated from my bike. It's worth every penny!
