Double multimedia tower - not bad

Yes, chipboard below. Yes, it is easy to damage. The instructions are just fine. I want them to give a hint as to which end the tip goes to (the end with the cams). Unfortunately, the holes are in the same positions at the top and bottom, and you can easily try mounting them in reverse order. I did that but the cam holes were too small so of course I drilled them wider to fit. DOH! Then I tried to pull them out and they broke. I ended up buying more dowels and adding glue to all the dowels and abutments. Hopefully this way it will be much stronger. I will never take it apart. I don't know where they got it that it can hold 240 BlueRay discs. I counted 222. Of course if you turn the DVD on its side you can move the shelves closer together but then you won't be able to see what they are. The picture shows a 5 hole spacing for the shelves, but that would only be 5 * 1.25 = 6.25 inches (minus the width of the shelf). Blueray DVDs are 6.75 inches high, so 6 holes are needed: 6 * 1.25 = 7.5 inches (smaller shelf width). That means you leave unused a shelf where you can stack DVDs sideways. Particle board shouldn't be a problem as we don't have young children to knock it over or handle it roughly and once fitted and installed the space should be just right. The contrast of black and oak looks lovely.

Pros
  • Living room furniture
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for older people
