This product required easy assembly which a lot of people don't do. The instructions aren't great, but I have a long history of making products like this, so this might be easier for me. Yes, chipboard below. Yes, it is easy to damage. The instructions are just fine. I want them to give a hint as to which end the tip goes to (the end with the cams). Unfortunately, the holes are in the same positions at the top and bottom, and you can easily try mounting them in reverse order. I did that but the cam holes were too small so of course I drilled them wider to fit. DOH! Then I tried to pull them out and they broke. I have 2 of these and several other Prepac storage towers made from oak. I use the wider ones for movies and these for video games and music. While you can't expect solid wood at this price point, their finishes are more attractive than most other laminate options in this price range, they're easy to assemble, have reasonably straight corners (I've had some similar types of furniture that will come out uneven) and feel strong feel. In my case they are in a semi-permanent setup in the room I use
