Review on πŸ“¦ MaticBox Case for Raspberry Pi 3 / Pi 2 / Tinker Board – Low Profile, Stackable, DIN Rail Mountable, Automation Friendly, Fan Support (Black) by Steve Walton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very suitable for single board computers

Totally unique case. I bought a black one first and then a white one. The finishes on both are nice and the pieces fit together well. I needed one for my garage - I use an older Pi2 with a relay board to control my garage door and another to host a video surveillance solution with the Pi3 board. Since my garage is painted white, I put white in there and the black is less visible from the outside of the house. A tip about the base - it's easier to attach and detach if you press on the pieces to fit them in. opposite directions. I found it in the instructions. Here's what impressed me - for my garage project I'm using a relay soldered onto a small circuit board. The relay board used to be simply glued to the top of the case, but with this case it fits neatly in! I managed to screw the circuit board into one of the holes inside the case and now everything looks clean. I attached the case to the wall with four more screws and am basically satisfied with the result. As for the video surveillance solution, I first started with the camera module v1.3 that I had laying around. Using double-sided adhesive pads, I was able to secure it inside the case, allowing the camera to "see" through the slots in the top of the case. It worked, but I didn't like the picture from the camera. I then bought a Revain wide-angle camera module, cut some rods in the top of the housing to let the lens pass through, and attached the module with adhesive pads. The picture is much better. I found an unexpected use for the base. I 3D printed a ball mount that attached to the base and made it much easier to reposition the camera. See image. Overall, I'm very impressed with how well these cases fit my two projects.
