Review on Beck Arnley 084 4114 Speed Sensor by John Brazington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits exactly and works as it should

I changed the right rear wheel bearing on my 2006 Forester (buy an Outback, it has modular bearings). Replacing these bearings requires a significant amount of time and tools. Because of the frozen transverse bolt on the suspension, the entire hub had to be dismantled to get to the bearing. The speed sensor was stuck and wouldn't come out of the hub, I ended up breaking it. I had to get under the back seat, loosen it, undo the 3 or 4 bolts holding it to the frame and pull it out with the hub. Instead I tried removing it from the hub on the car but that didn't work. After replacing the bearing and this part in it, it installed perfectly and they stopped glowing on the ABS dashboard. Good product. My advice: Don't attempt this job until you can tick it off, even if you have to take it to the store and ask for it. Machining the bearing is easy (with the right tool) after the cross bolt is removed. I had a new screw on hand because I knew removing it would damage it. Because I ended up removing it after I had the hub in a vise. (used lots of graphite to reinstall it). This is a key bolt that should have been stainless steel but instead froze into the hub mounts.

Pros
  • Quality construction for durability
Cons
  • Can't remember
