Hygger Immersion Heater

I've read that some people have had issues with the heater not heating as hoped. I also read about what we need for our turtle tank. We bought everything recommended (well, almost) for a turtle. Turtle cleaning, a turtle safe water additive, a water filter and finally a heater. This heater is submersible and has suction cups that will hold it to any surface you place it on. We put ours next to our filter unit to circulate heated water. If your device keeps blinking E1; Make sure the device is completely submerged in water. It will overheat and/or stop working. Reading reviews from people who don't have the same temp in all their tanks, it dawned on me that they might not have the same water circulation as we do. Our tank has a constant temperature due to the filter unit. Without them, the water would be warm near and around the heater. We found that our turtle became much more active in just a few hours with this tank heater. But when we had to remove the filter unit to disinfect it, the turtle wasn't as active. She likes to hang out by the heater and we found that heating her water to around 80 degrees Fahrenheit worked well. Although in winter it is increased to 82 * f. We used to have smelly, uncomfortable water, but with a filter and additives, not only is the water in our turtle tank always clear, we find that our turtle appears to be healthier. Too bad we didn't buy all of these items before our male turtle died. It is very important to ensure your turtles have wet and dry areas and a place to tan. Keep separate thermometers for each area to regulate those areas. These are a few reptile care books that you can buy as excellent guides to caring for your reptiles. Make sure you choose the right size for your water tank or you will overload the device and it will not be effective. We bought a 100w unit for our tank because we have a big tank. When I lifted the device out of the water, it turned off almost immediately. The heater didn't turn on until I fully submerged the main body in water. To set the temperature, you have to press and release the "Set" button several times. If you exceed the desired temperature, you must do this repeatedly until you pass again. How painful. Holding the button does nothing. You need to press/release multiple times to set the temperature. It has a cord that is about 3 feet long, so make sure you have a power source nearby. If you use an extension cord, make sure the cord can work with the heating element! Too many people use cheap cables and they melt because they can't handle the heat generated by the electric current. We have been using this non stop since 2/16/20 and so far so good. (see update below) One thing we noticed is that our turtle loves to climb on top of the device and this caused the suction cups to lose their grip! Clean the surface you intend to install it on beforehand to reduce this chance. We didn't, but after doing this a few times, cleaning the glass surface seemed to help. Hope that helps. UPDATE 5/11/21: We purchased this item on 2/16/20 and it hasn't worked for a month. The display shows double HH. The user manual is completely useless as it doesn't contain any diagnostic codes that would help me fix this problem. It has stopped working and no matter what I try I can't get it to work again. I now rate this product an "F" for disclaimer. Don't waste money!
