Nice tool! for deck nails

If you want to screw the deck laterally, this tool is sufficient. I install Doug Fir pressure treated. PT wood has a hard surface and typically does not drive nails or screws in as easily as untreated wood. With camouflage screws (NOT slotted screws), the installed decking board is processed well. Without careful installation, the tool will NOT align at 90ΒΊ to the plank profile. Until you get used to it, make sure it's perpendicular to the board before tightening the screws. Unfortunately, I think it's not possible to set BOTH ends of the tool to a specific gap. At only 1/16" from the adjustable width edge (behind the tool) and 3/16" from the front, you can use the tool on the guide plate only. This makes it impossible to use a tool to swap boards that are close together. You can tighten the screws BEFORE installing the board. It will work. I would prefer the same distance front and rear. Spacing: Why not a 1/8" spacer? I asked National Nail if they would consider that option and they said no. My opinion, but 3/16" is too wide, 1/16" is too narrow. Using a nail as a spacer is a method that has almost always been used. And the nail is really close to 1/8". I'm only halfway through with my current decking job, my first with this tool (homeowner , but I've put 4-5 decks in) and it's worked well so far The guides don't wear out The handle flexes a little but as the instructions say don't use it to do the job that a board clamp or other placement tool should do the trick. I've investigated several "side screw" or flush mounting methods, in the past only end screws were used. No slotted biscuit cutting system interested me. I know people who have used DeckMaster and who would not touch this setting. The lack of spacing options is the only issue keeping it from getting a 5 star rating. There is NO WAY I could use a hole tip (like stealth screws) without this guide. And a split tip would do just that: split.
