IPX5 rating sounds like crap to me. I used it on the deck of my Sunfish during race prep. It worked well for a few uses and I really, really liked it. It has occasionally been splashed on deck, but IPX5 means it "withstands a low-pressure jet of water". There will be no pressure, squirting will be infrequent and he will never submerge unless he is upside down, which he never was. Nevertheless, it splashed more than usual during one ride and everything was fogged up. I let it dry overnight, but the condensation never went away, and when I plugged it in, it shorted out, thankfully without blowing up my computer's USB port. Instead, I went with a Garmin Fenix 6X (laughs).
