I have kept fish for many years and this brand is the most reliable I have found. Simple, reliable and inexpensive. What I really like is that the filter mat holder is designed in such a way that you can cut the bulky filter mat with scissors and use it instead of cartridges. Much cheaper in the long run. I prefer to use two smaller filters per tank. So if someone breaks, no big deal. The second will do its job until I order a new one. The downside is that they tend to get noisy after a few years as the impeller wears out. but that actually applies to every HOB filter. It's less than $20, so I just replace the entire filter as soon as the impeller comes loose.
