This cable protector is relatively easy to install. The housing is removable and you press it against the cable to be protected. I figured it would be best to press it near the connector (where you have a good grip and the cable is less flexible) and then press it down the length of the cable from there. I didn't measure, I just slipped the sleeve on and off until it covered the full length of the cord and then cut the sleeve. It is easiest to use smooth surfaced cords; I had some trouble with the line, which had a softer, rubbery outer coating that creates drag when you slide the casing forward. Even with the most complex cables, this is fairly easy. It worked great with heavy extension cords plugged into a "power panel" or surge protector. We don't know how long he'll resist determined chewing, but it'll definitely buy time if the pup reaches for the lamp cord when you're not looking.
