Review on Navigate with Confidence: 🧭 Magellan Triton 300 Waterproof Hiking GPS by Brian Stepp

I prefer the Garmin Etrex Legend H to the Magellan Triton 300

I had a base model Garmin Etrex that I've been using for 10 years. I chose a newer model with a color display that could do area calculations. I bought a Magellan Triton 300. After I updated it to the latest OS from the Magellan website, it was able to do area calculations. I make a living from growing wheat and barley, and our family also goes horseback riding on mountain trails. Sometimes I need to measure smaller areas by the number of acres in them. I was so disappointed with the features of the Magellan Triton 300 that I bought a Garmin Etrex Legend H. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: The bright color screen is easy to read, but it's only backlit. Robust construction. Ability to scroll forward and backward. acceptable price. Cons: (compared to Garmin Etrex Legend H with 4-level gray display). Without a backlight, the Magellan Triton 300 is very difficult to read, even in sunlight. The Garmin is easy to read without the backlight, in fact I turned the backlight off to save battery life. Magellan seemed too wide compared to Garmin. While Magellan finds it difficult, if not impossible, to operate the joystick ring and selector knob when wearing gloves in cold weather, Garmin makes it much easier to operate the control buttons even with gloves. This can be a problem in cold weather and wind. Magellan requires more clicks on more pages and menus for simple tasks like deleting a track than Garmin. Garmin offers more options for selecting pages and sorting pages with the quick scroll button. The Garmin menu is much easier to read and navigate. Garmin was immediately ready for area calculation without an upgrade. The Garmin makes it much easier to change batteries since the back panel is removed with a quick 1/4 turn of the knob. The Posterior Magellan Lock must be unthreaded and then re-threaded carefully to avoid twisting the threads, damaging the screw, and over-tightening. Overall, I found the Garmin Legend H much easier to use and the display better to see than the Magellan thanks to its longer battery life. Triton 300.
