Review on πŸ”ͺ DALSTRONG Premium Whetstones: Top-Grade, Highly Durable Tools for Sharpening by Mark Harrison

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Affordable medium quality stones in stunning packaging.

If you're impressed with the packaging, get ready to be impressed. The packaging for this is fit for a high-end laptop or similar product, and the stones themselves appear to be beautiful, but the jury is still out. I love the oversized format, but as a carpenter and home cook I have many grinding tools and experience with different stones and I know that everyone is different. While some stones are good at sharpening some steels, they are not good at sharpening others. So far I've only sharpened kitchen knives of all western brands, particularly Henkel and Wustorf which are known for softer steels compared to Japanese knives, and some of my woodworking tools made from A2 steel and other harder alloys. The results were good, but not great, and since sharpening chef's knives doesn't wear down the stone as much as a Β½ inch chisel, I can't comment on the durability of the stones and how often they need to be leveled, and therefore theirs efficiency . live but they seem to sludge easily and cut fairly quickly, at least on softer steel, I haven't sharpened my Japanese knives yet but that can also cause buckling and shorter life than harder stones. mainly for occasional sharpening, I would recommend them, if only to see the box for yourself and at a very modest price. On the other hand, if you sharpen Japanese knives or A2 steel tools extensively, the jury is still out, but I have Feeling that they might be a little soft.
