I've used many different methods for stranded wire ends over the years, but using this crimping tool with the correct ferrules (included) is the best method I've used. I'll admit that sometimes in the past I just twisted the wires and got the job done. When I wanted to make a really strong and durable connection I spent time soldering it, but soldering can be a slow process that is often inconvenient, especially when working overhead or in cars where you might be concerned about have to do hot soldering. Iron (or molten solder) damaging internal fabrics or plastics. The crimping tool is all metal with molded handles that are actually very comfortable to use. The ratchet function works well and consistently and in my case I used the crimpers straight out of the box without any modifications. There is an adjustment cam if needed, but so far I haven't had to make any adjustments on the crimps I've made. This is subject to change based on the different gauges and wire types I encounter in the future, so I'm glad the pressure applied to the tips can be adjusted. The actual connections this crimping tool makes are fantastic. They look more professional and polished, and the hex shape fits terminal blocks and connectors better than the square shape that many other crimping tools make. In fact, the hex shape was one of the main advantages of this particular crimping tool, and I'm glad I went that route. The tips provided appear to be of high quality and I seriously doubt I have to worry about them going out for years. Another benefit of this particular crimping machine was the fact that it came with a zip case. It's a small thing, but I really like keeping the crimping tool and ferrules organized and it makes it so convenient to take the kit with me when I need it. Basically, I have nothing to complain about in the kit. It's not a tool I'll use often and certainly not something I would use on a daily basis, but so far the set has met and even exceeded my expectations. It's a great time saver for electrical projects and a crimping tool should be in every tool box for stranded wire wiring.
