Be careful! The threads can come loose and tangle the bird's paws!

I thought I'd like these nests better than the little braided nests my finches used to have. They looked sturdier and I figured the tight coils would be strong enough to withstand their habit of tearing things apart. However, I ended up throwing them away after one of my birds wrapped the rope around their foot so tightly that I had to remove it with tweezers and sewing scissors. The poor thing was in great pain. Here are my criticisms: PRO: - Looks nice and comfortable - Holds tight to the cage. ___________________________________________ AGAINST: - Annoying putting on and taking off the cage - Very difficult to clean, since two uncomfortable wing nuts have to be unscrewed even when removing to shake out loose material. My birds were scared of the little faux fur inserts so I couldn't use them - hardware not compatible. I ordered two sockets and one had an oblong washer with two screw holes. This worked very well, but the second nest came with two separate round washers that didn't attach very well to the cage. MAYBE DANGEROUS. Maybe it's just my birds, but they actually managed to untie some of the cotton threads enough to get their paws caught in them. My daughter was very lucky that her leg was not broken._____________________________

Pros
  • ❤ GREAT FOR NEST BUILDING: The cotton rope bird nest is great for nest building. Or small birds like finches, canaries and budgerigars can build a cozy nest out of fibers.
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other pickaxes
