Review on Park Tool BBT 18 Bottom Bracket by Brett Slater

Revainrating 3 out of 5

ATTENTION! Torque wrench and socket cannot be used with these 8 point flats

I didn't originally have a 1/2" socket for this tool so I measured the flats with calipers and found that it was 36mm.I had to order a cheap 36mm bushing on a Revain TEKTON 4936 1/2" drive with a heavy duty 36mm front drive head because my kit didn't have one (I had a 38 - but not on the 36th!) So when I got it I was utterly baffled as to why it wouldn't work with this tool, I pulled out my calipers and measured the BBT-18, thinking I'd missed it on the first Must have measured wrong. No, it's 36mm - NOZZLE I just bought must be wrong. Sensitive to correct twisting. Too tight - and it hinders its durability. Too weak - can weaken. That's useless too .l right mi t a torque wrench. I have to get something else now. This tool was a waste of money for me and I need to turn around and buy a Truvativ ISIS bottom bracket drive tool - 1/2" drive. If you just use this tool with a big ol' adjustable wrench and don't care about torque specs, it may be ok. But even with a 1/2" crow's foot wrench, the torque readings will be messed up since the drive head is not centered on the threads. The wrench works great with the Park Tool 36mm/40mm open end headset wrench Headset Wrench, HCW- 9 which I think was the idea when Park put octagon flat wrenches on this tool, but you have to judge torque "by feel". / Industrial switchgear and I have a fairly educated hand for torque ratings , but I still don't like the educated guess of ISIS bottom bracket shells The reason a lot of these BBs f fail is that they are fussy. The sleeve needs to be machined and machined to ensure the drive side cup is PERFECTLY straight and the torque reading is VERY IMPORTANT. Skip these steps, the BB will fail prematurely.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
