Review on Topeak Defender Tx - Ultimate Front & Rear Set for Unmatched Protection by Yung Kaelin

Quality product with few installation problems

Like other Topeak devices I've bought this is a very good product, well made and good quality. But they're not perfect, and perhaps it goes without saying when a product like these mudguards is designed to fit many different bikes rather than a specific make and model. There were three small issues when installing on my Diamondback Haanjo Metro, which also has a Topeak Explorer MTX rack installed. The clearance between my tire and the seat tube is pretty tight and I had to mount the fender higher on the seat tube than I would have liked which means the mudguard doesn't come down as close to the bottom bracket as I would like. favor. Using a rear fender with an Explorer brace means that the fender and brace must share the same attachment points. No problem, but I had to find different screws long enough and with the right head size to get through the fenders and trunk. Finally, the front fender's left side support interfered with the cable-actuated disc brake caliper, even though these fenders are made for bikes with disc brakes. That doesn't seem to be a problem for hydraulic disc brakes. The bend in the front fender brace gave enough clearance to complete the installation and is not very noticeable. Overall, they offer good coverage, are well made, and relatively easy to install considering you might need a little fiddling to fit them to your bike. Topeak needs to provide 2 x M5 x 12 4mm hex head bolts to use the rear fender with its luggage rack. They look good and the sleek black finish means they match the tires well and look fairly understated.
