Cons: I switched from a Dell s2417dg monitor which had notoriously horrible color bars and the Asus Pg279qm isn't much better in my experience. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw some videos, pictures and games showing this error. This is most noticeable in darker shades. I'm too lazy to post pictures, but in Valorant when I look at the walls in the Haven map I see a progress bar that I never noticed before on my old monitor. In some cases when watching videos and playing games with darker skies or shadows I see a posterization effect which is just as annoying as it is on my Dell. The next thing I want to talk about is contrast. The contrast is very modest, but is expected from modern IPS technology. The annoying thing, however, is that the contrast of my device is lower than specified. I calibrated it with a Colorchecker Display Pro and the best contrast I could get was 970. Now it's very close to the advertised 1000 ratio, but it's a setting that makes a big difference, even if it's about is a 30-digit difference. Also in the Lagom black value test, this panel could not show the difference between the 3 values of the blackest boxes separately. This causes a little black distortion on all content, but I can tolerate that as it's not as bad as my Dell. The only way to see all of the rectangles in the Lagom test is to use the Black Boost feature in the OSD settings, but it blurs the image at the maximum level. I really wish this display had better contrast, although not by much. When it comes to HDR400 I don't find it to be good or work at all because of the terrible local dimming. Most of the notorious reviewers say it's bad, so don't buy it and don't expect anything from its HDR. Finally, I would like to mention the clarity of the text and. This is bad. It's like I can't focus on any text at the panel's native resolution at 100% zoom. I no longer had this problem with my Dell. And I should note that my vision is by no means bad as my optometrist has confirmed that it is only slightly different from 20/20. There is a workaround to this problem and it is to use the windows cleartype feature along with a custom windows scaling of 150%. After changing the settings, the text is much better and my eyes can finally relax. Positives: - Excellent color gamut, a clear improvement over my Dell. The right sRGB mode that will delight creatives who need it. One of the widest wide gamut monitors currently on the market. Built-in Gsync module. There weren't any obvious overshoots/ghostings in any of the games I've played. But according to hardware unboxed, the overshoot speed is higher in the range of 165-200 fps. I don't play my games at these refresh rates, so I can't comment on that. Response time and input lag are very good; I noticed a difference with my Dell. Final Thoughts: I don't use the Nvidia RLA feature as I play my competitive games on low settings anyway to ensure minimal lag and stutter while keeping the image smooth. I say that because the price of this monitor is definitely impacted by the inclusion of this feature and Gsync. For those who don't care about RLA and Gsync, but still think the above annoyances are too much, I recommend taking a look at the Asus Xg27aqm or the Acer XB273U GXbmiipruzx, as these two monitors are on average $300 cheaper than this monitor, here $240. /270hz overclocking/resolution 1440p. Since I've never tried what I suggested above, I can't guarantee that you won't encounter the same disadvantages I mentioned at the beginning of the review. it made me seriously consider bringing it back. At an MSRP of $900, I really expect better quality control.
