When a Warn VR12-S GEN II 12000lb winch is installed on my Jeep Rubicon Soft Cleats they have a 30,000lb capacity and a 30,000lb tree guard strap. However, the included winch hook has a lifting capacity of 8,900 pounds. That's 3,100 pounds less winch capacity. To maximize the capabilities of your winches, you want the winch to be the weakest link in the system. Otherwise, you risk catastrophic failure under load. And why buy a high traction winch when other components can't handle the load? To increase traction I added an Epic Warn 92091 winch hook and a spare hook to the kit as a backup. Now my 12,000 lb winch is the weakest link in the system, as it should be.
