Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Zippo 12-Hour Hand Warmer: A Stylish Solution for Warmth on the Go by Kristin Rogness

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Provides 20 hours of warmth (not 12 hours as advertised) with one fill!

I've used the Zippo hand warmer about a dozen times and have found it to provide 20 hours of warmth on one fill - way longer than the advertised 12 hours! Believe me I have no complaints! I would have been perfectly happy with 12 hours, but the longer than expected runtime was a very, very pleasant surprise. Feature I use Ronsonol lighter fluid and it works fine. I had no trouble igniting the catalytic burner. Important note: The catalytic burner does not actually burn; it glows with only ONE glow. So you can't tell exactly when it's lit. The only way to know if it's burning is by the heat it radiates. I always put it in the flame for 5-6 seconds while moving it around to avoid hot spots and it never stopped burning. for users who expect it to actually *burn*. Like I said, you won't see it burn, but it burns anyway. The way you speak is the warmth she radiates. It begins to radiate a very faint amount of heat and gradually warms up. The catalytic burner is designed for approximately 70 uses, after which it must be replaced with a new replacement catalytic burner. including bag. The pocket is very important as it helps to avoid bare skin coming in direct contact with the metal surface of the hand warmer (and the hand warmer gets pretty hot!). I have used a heating pad in my sleeping bag and it has made my sleeping bag feel good. and toast all night. This is definitely one thing I will take with me on camping and hiking trips. Here's a tip: to carry extra fuel, I use an empty nasal spray bottle (a squeeze type, not a metering pump). The cap is removable so you can fill it with your favorite lighter fluid (don't forget to wash the nasal spray bottle thoroughly first!). If you look closely at most of these squeezable nasal spray bottles, you can see the seam where the tip connects to the rest of the bottle. To remove the tip, slightly lift the seam with your fingernail and completely remove the tip (you can also try pliers). Remove the inner tube attached to the handpiece. The tapered tip helps dispense lighter fluid in a very narrow and precise stream to avoid spillage - Measuring Lighter Fluid Lighter fluid is measured using the small plastic measure/dispenser provided. There are two marks on the scale. The top mark on the measure is "one fill" (3/4 ounces) and the bottom mark is half that amount (3/8 ounces). The hand warmer consistently gives me 20 hours of heat when filled with lighter fluid, measured to the upper mark, and 10 hours of heat when filled with lighter fluid, measured to the lower mark. As you can see, a little goes a long way. DO NOT overfill the hand warmer; Only use the recommended amount of lighter fluid or your hands could pose a fire hazard! If the clichรฉ "bigger isn't better" is used appropriately, then this is it. Construction The construction of the hand warmer is quite solid. It is made of brass and chrome plated. The lid flexes a little when you press on its wide sides, but that's nothing to worry about. When the lid is closed on the case, the whole unit is pretty solid. A very minor complaint is that the lid is a little loose and can be easily removed. My solution was to push the lid very gently to close the hole a bit. I now have a case that fits snugly to my body.- Aesthetics The hand warmer's curved design and all-chrome body make it a real eye-catcher. It's a beautiful thing that I enjoy looking at as much as I enjoy using it. Extinguish The "Flame" Zippo tells you that once combustion has started (when the fuel runs out), it should burn out. Not so. An easy way to stop catalytic combustion is to simply place the heating pad in a sealed, zippered bag. The burner will go out in a few minutes and the hand warmer will be stone cold again. --- Reports of poor construction and performance of this heating pad really have me scratching my head. The only complaint I'd agree with is the loose lid (I found an easy fix). Maybe I have a good work tool. It burns hot and never goes out prematurely. There are several hand warmers that I recommend checking out (they have very good reviews). These are the Japanese Peacock Giant Size Platinum Catalyzed Metal Hand Warmers and the Deluxe Electric Ignite Metal Pocket Hand Warmers. In addition to the "giant" size, Peacock comes in two other sizes - mini and standard. However, they are not available from Revain (AOTW) but from this large auction. Another hand warmer also uses lighter fluid, but it's electric and doesn't need an open flame to ignite. Good luck finding a hand warmer that suits your needs.
