A handy tool for measuring light levels, but not camera exposure settings.

Disclaimer: I received this product for free through Vine. This is my first light meter. It is ideal for objectively determining the incident light intensity under various conditions. His statement seems very consistent, but I cannot judge its accuracy. This is a great little tool for determining the light output of lamps and lightbulbs and determining if the room is really dark or if you just have poor eyesight. It's not that useful for photography as it doesn't convert LUX or foot candles into exposure settings; You have to do it yourself or buy a photometer that starts at a few hundred dollars and goes up from there. The processing quality is appropriate for the price. It is made mostly of lightweight plastic with some rubberized gripping elements and features a metal tripod mount with 1/4-20 threads. It comes with a nylon carrying case, a wrist strap that screws into the tripod mount, and a small Phillips screwdriver to open the 9V battery compartment. The LCD is backlit and easy to read in bright sunlight or at night. The light sensor can be rotated forward, backward, left or right. There's some sort of data port on the back of the device, but it's not mentioned in the manual and won't fit in any standard USB port. The one-page manual says the device will become less sensitive over time and should be calibrated from time to time, but doesn't say how to calibrate it. I emailed the company with a question about calibration and the data port. I will update this review when I get a reply. All in all, this is a good device for consumers to objectively measure light levels. If you need a light meter for photography, you will have to spend a lot more.
