Review on Glastar All Star G8 Grinder by Karla Richter

This grinder works very well and is easy to set up and use. It provides the project with plenty of water, which is very important for proper glass grinding. It has a large lower platform with a 1 inch nozzle used for most jobs, made of plastic with a waffle pattern that allows water and debris to fall into the tank below the surface. The platform is big enough to handle everything I need. In addition, there is a second platform that can be added on top of the first, giving less working space around the 1/4" bit. Adding this top surface installs it in an original way that automatically pumps water to the top platform, Giving a good flow of water to this surface through a pipe hidden in the mounting post - well done. Whether you use the top surface with a 1/4" bit or the bottom surface with a 1" bit, you'll have good water flow and the pump will keep the water moving. However, sometimes it seems that there is so much water that it starts to go negative. I do a lot of loops with a template taped on to show me where the edges should be. The strong flow of water from this grinder gets the paper stencils so wet that the adhesive loosens and the stencil can be moved. With small pieces, I have to be particularly careful not to get so wet that the stencil comes off completely. A small drawer on the right side of the machine is handy for storing extra parts that come with the grinder - extra sponges and such - but I found them very difficult to get in and out of. I put lube on the drawer and it helped, but it's still stiff. There is an additional guide that screws into the main face and holds the glass piece in place for long straight grinds. I haven't found a use for it yet. I generally don't like the idea of screwing something to the platform, and I don't cut pieces that seem to fit that "extra". There was also a pair of pliers with a rather narrow head, but I didn't use those either, as I prefer my larger metal ones. There is a clear eye protection, that gets the job done, and a "flexible splash guard". . Fender is a good thing, but don't confuse it with the large fender surrounding the device. This is a small V-shaped guard that extends around the 1" drill bit on the main surface and prevents water and ground glass from being thrown back or to the sides of the head. I'm very happy this is included but I think I'll probably need a larger fender around the entire unit to protect my walls.
