Review on 🏠 HomeKit Assistant: Philips Hue Starter Kit by Jared Coleman

Works as advertised but very weak

Even at the highest settings these bulbs are very dim, you need at least 4 per room but then the value for money is greatly reduced. The app has firmware updates for each device but it takes hours and there is no percentage or estimated time left leaving you waiting indefinitely. The strangest thing about this firmware update process is that some of the devices eventually say "ready to update" but you can't update them individually. From all the test videos I've heard that Zigbee is slightly better than direct Wi-Fi for smart devices, but after spending that money I found that the Hue bridge only connects to Zigbee channels 11, 15 , 20, 25, and guess what, all of these channels overlap with 2.4 GHz WiFi. Yes, you can research this and see for yourself, so I've really added more interference to my WiFi and it might affect my neighbors too.

Pros
  • SIMPLE AND VERSATILE: The Hue Smart Button is easy to use and install. Equipped with magnets, adhesive tape and a wall bracket, the button can be placed in many different places. Requires no hard wiring. Control your lights without touching your smartphone.
Cons
  • unreliable
