Great boots with a big flaw

My kids have had a variety of Kamik boots over the years and overall I'm a big fan of this brand. This time I chose these boots mainly because of the brand awareness and the reviews and regrettably regretted it. The boots are still very well made, well insulated and keep my children's feet warm. They never leaked. I love that the waterproof fabric surrounds everything, even if you open the boot the front flap/tongue is still connected to the main body of the boot by the waterproof fabric, preventing water/snow from entering. Boots close very inconveniently. The only thing that keeps the boot closed is a small velcro at the end of the elastic strap that wraps around the front. All that's above the strap still flaps, not fully closed because nothing is keeping it closed. There's too much room for snow. My daughter's winter pants this year don't have a strong elastic band to put on the boot (there is an elastic band, but it's not very tight), which combined with this weak closure of the boots meant that the winter pants went all the way over the boot, and the boot was clogged with snow. In addition, due to the friction of the boots on objects, the Velcro is easily tightened when the child rolls in the snow, and the boot slips out and fills with snow. Then the Velcro sticks from the snow and usually no longer works. It's incredibly frustrating and my daughter comes back from sledding with wet and cold feet from stepping in the snow in her socks too many times when her boots fell off! This will teach me a lesson and I will stay away from boots without zippers or laces. That flimsy velcro is a joke.
