This sensor on the 01, 4.3l v6 controls the instrument panel temperature gauge. If your ECM reads a very low temperature like -38 degrees, the thermostat has a different temperature sensor. The Haynes manual incorrectly states that there is only one sensor. Before replacing parts, test with an ohmmeter by heating the sensor.
