I have used Startech equipment and cables for many years. I have always considered them reliable. Sometimes a bit more expensive, but worth it. I experienced a power surge on the motherboard of one of my computers. The SATA-II connectors and two of my hard drives are burned out. I had to pull the remaining drives out of the case and there were short E-Sata ports. Very happy with the performance of this device. I haven't used the backup feature yet because I haven't recovered the lost data yet. One of the great features is the eject button instead of just ejecting discs. Don't be afraid to damage the connectors on the drives. I'm not sure about other docking stations, but you can turn on the drives after the computer is turned on and disconnect the drives while the computer is running. Hot swap basically. Again completely satisfied with the purchase.
