Will not fit most new desks

I wanted this for my desk but it turned out the clamp isn't wide enough for one of these new metal desks and it doesn't reach. a bar at the top to pinch it. I tried to use it but it keeps crashing. This only works on older tables like plywood drafting tables or anything that has at least a two inch overhang and no more than 1 1/2 inches thick. And for some reason it charges very slowly. I had to go back.
