Review on Humminbird 411340 1CHO Helix Control Finder by Robert Corral

I am using my Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N CHO for ice fishing before moving it to my deep sea fishing boat later this year. As advertised, the face-down flashing display is sharp and impressive. Switching from ice fishing mode to 360 imaging mode requires a hard reset, which is painful and quite confusing until you've done it multiple times. The device consumes a lot of battery power, which is not a big surprise considering the size of the display and the brightness (adjustable). Two 8Ah batteries are required for daytime fishing. My device (currently 21st Feb) has a software bug or two as the flasher display occasionally freezes and requires a reboot. The context menus are pretty well organized, but the Human Factors/UI team haven't learned the basics of visibility (practiced in powerpoint presentations) that putting thin, light text on a light background is a bad idea. I've been using Humminbird devices for a long time and was hoping that by now the UI design team would have learned darker colors (in bold), menu icons on light backgrounds improve screen readability, it's just as simple in terms of design and this is the way to go . Even at night in a dark ice hut, menu selections can be VERY difficult to read. After all, he often has trouble getting GPS readings. Eventually it seems to get the position, but it can take almost five minutes after the power is turned on.
