You can put a small square rug on top so that the animal does not slide on the surface. There are two ways to do this. One way is to turn on the scale, place a square of rug on it, and then press the "zero" button, which resets the scale to zero. Then weigh the animal. Another method is to place a pad on the scale before turning it on. Then when you turn on the scale, it will automatically reset to zero. You can also buy felt with a sticky backing to give the weight a semi-permanent non-slip surface. If you have a wobbly, active animal, you can place a box or basket on the scale, zero, and then place the animal in the weigh box. I really like this scale and use it often.
