does not work with HDMI-VGA adapters

Unfortunately, this product [or maybe this particular batch!?] did not work for my application. I connected a new HDMI from my PS4 to an Acer monitor and it didn't work. No signal, not a trace of power or data flowing through the device. The case also opened quite easily and the cable had enough slack. The item has been returned.
