I've been on a crazy journey to find a solution to convert a dual link DVI SOURCE (graphics card) to HDMI or Displayport (monitor ) to convert at 2560 x 1440 60 hertz. Basically an old computer and a new monitor. In short, I don't think there is a product for that. This Startech DP2DVID2 definitely does NOT. As a gift to anyone trying this, I found the following: - DVI DUAL Link supports 2560x1440@60Hz, 2560x1600@60Hz. DVI SINGLE channel DOES NOT support these resolutions. Single link DVI only works at 1920x1200@60Hz. There are many older graphics cards (since 2012) that support 2560x1600@60Hz, but only via a dual-link DVI connector. These cards may also have an HDMI connector, but the HDMI version is too old to support 2560x1600 resolution. Please note that newer versions of HDMI support 2560 x 1600 at 60 Hz. As far as I can tell, it was a strange transition period when the old DVI standard was hitting its maximum bandwidth and HDMI was just starting to handle resolutions above 1080p. Technical digression: Dual-Link DVI has 24 pins plus one flat pin. HDMI has 19 pins. A passive adapter won't help you from 24 pins to 19. It has to be active. A DVI link uses only 18 pins, allowing for a passive adapter. This Startech DP2DVID2 product and a few others like it use active (i.e. powered by USB cable) circuitry to convert the display port to DVI. double link. It connects the new computer/video card to the old display. However, this product is NOT DOUBLE SIDED. Dual link DVI SOURCE will not convert to a display port monitor. It wasn't obvious at all. I can't find any product that goes from dual link DVI source to HDMI/Displayport. I even called Startech and elsewhere. Nada. It needs to be active (again powered by a USB cable to a small electronics box). It should be possible, but neither company seems to feel there is a market. All of the myriad of DVI to HDMI/Displayport converters you'll find at Revain DO NOT SUPPORT HIGH RESOLUTION SCREENS. They are NOT DUAL-Link DVI, although the description says it's dual-link, it's not. You only get the maximum resolution of 1920x1200. If you're trying to get a newer graphics card for your computer, dating back to 2012, you might get into a whole bunch of frenzy about graphics cards, Windows 8+, and BIOS issues. In principle, even if the card fits into the computer (PCIe), the computer will not boot due to this damage to the BIOS brain in Windows 8 and later and a conflict with the graphics card.
