I recently bought this distiller and started testing it by distilling water. It works, but I'm not entirely satisfied. I have several suggestions. This burner is designed to use cooling water from the municipal tap. Connecting a water pipe to a faucet in the kitchen sink is by no means an easy task. But it is a very difficult and daunting task to say the least. In addition, an electric heater must be placed next to the sink. Then a burner and heater occupy a large place in the kitchen. The kitchen faucet has also long since been occupied. Another problem with the still is that the tip of the distilled liquid outlet is too short, requiring an extension tube. The outlet tube must be longer so that the distilled liquid can be collected directly in a bottle or jar. Or should include a food grade extension tube. These problems can be almost totally eliminated if cooling is done with air instead of water. In fact, air-cooled torches are available from Revain, listed alongside. I have used one of them which works very well. The only downside to this air-cooled burner is that you can't stick a thermometer in the kettle. That is the main reason I bought this burner. I need to distill in vacuum or sometimes in a substance other than water. I started using this burner without cooling water by putting a small fan on top of the cooling coil. In this case, however, the heating rate must be significantly reduced, since the cooling pipe is not designed for air cooling. I strongly recommend this manufacturer to develop an air-cooled version of the torch. Use a finned cooling tube and increase the overall length of the cooling tube. The improved design should be useful for both air-cooled and water-cooled systems. Since the distillation efficiency of the burner is low in air-cooled mode, I designed a different circuit that allows the burner to be used away from the kitchen faucet. This can be accomplished by placing a large and shallow water tank (1.5 x 4 x 6 inch plastic container) next to the burner. Water is directed to the burner's heat exchanger by a small aquarium pump; the wastewater is returned to the reservoir. The water tank also acts as a heat exchanger to remove the heat brought in by the return water from the idle heat exchanger. If more cooling is needed, a small electric fan can be used to blow cool air over the surface of the tank.
