Review on πŸ”₯ Dorman 56276 Heated Door Mirror Glass for Dodge Models - Driver's Side by Brandon Teitel

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Installation instructions are ERROR, BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING OLD GLASS!

UPDATE (27th February 2015): As usual, Revain was prompt and courteous in returning the item. I received my complete device quickly and installed it immediately. Everything went smoothly. For those who choose to go this route, here is how I removed the door panel: DO NOT REMOVE THE SMALL PLASTIC INSERT "DODGE" AT THE TOP OF THE FRONT DOOR PANEL, THIS IS NOT, I REPEAT, NO ACCESS TO THE DOOR MIRROR ( don't ask me how I figured that out) - Remove the screw from the door handle and remove the handle - Unscrew the screws from the door panel and don't forget the two screws at the very bottom - Gently pull the panel UP and away from the door (there are "hooks" on the panel that go into the square holes in the door frame) - use the handle locks on the back of the door to "hang" the panel at an angle with one of the hooks " ( they won't get in the way while you tighten the mirror bolts - unplug the electrical connector and remove the 3 nuts holding the mirror (HOLD THE MIRROR WHILE TIGHTENING THE LAST REMOVE TOP NUT) - remove mirror from door and refit in reverse order DONE!- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ordered DID s yes it was for my car (I have cars in my amazon 'garage') so I just went with the glass rather than replacing the entire mirror assembly. However, even though this glass was the correct size for my mirror housing ('09 Cummins), the instructions were completely wrong and told me to remove my old glass in a specific way that didn't work. This forced me to disassemble part of the engine mechanism in my case. Not good. In order to put the part back onto my motor mechanism I had to reassemble it which resulted in the motor not working properly. THE SECOND IS NOT GOOD. Then when I pulled out my old glass I discovered that there was only one set of OE wires for the heating function and the new mirror had TWO sets of pins! Well, I rolled up my sleeves, still pissed about the motor, and started putting jumpers on the new mirror wire pins and soldering them on. It didn't work because the contacts detached from the back of the new mirror (the plastic melted). Now there is no heating function. THIRD BAD. At this point I was very frustrated (I'm a mechanic and an engineer, so of course I get very annoyed by defective products). doesn't work properly (I have to "help" him when I press the direction keys - it defeats the whole purpose of the electric mirrors). I did a product review online here and would NEVER update the review if I had!) Beware if you receive this and try to remove your old glass as instructed you may end up in the same boat as me. Now that I had it I also know how to pull the old one out properly: there is a tab on the outside of the mirror that you need to depress with a screwdriver while pulling the mirror glass inwards (ask a friend about it) . hold the flashlight). There are 4 guides that align and secure the mirror to the motor assembly. Once you have the new glass in place, line up these 4 tabs and push the glass from the outside until the large tab snaps into place. Be careful not to reach the 3 metal anti-vibration tabs at the appropriate points, otherwise they may bend. MUCH LUCK! (I would highly recommend just replacing the entire assembly for $87 and saving yourself a lot of pain.) I ordered my new complete body for $87.76 from this site: Drivers Power Trailer Side View Mirror with Heater Replacement for a Dodge pickup truck. 55077445AO -Jack
