Well it's bright, sharp and. much heavier and bulkier than I was offered. I looked closely at the reviews, photos and specs before deciding to purchase but was still surprised by its weight and weight when it arrived and had to hold it. In fact I almost gave it 3 stars instead of 4 because I find it very awkward to focus through looking through due to the rather narrow/heavy action and very unfortunate placement directly over the viewing eyepiece. Finally, I had a hard time keeping it from "darkening" so they seem very sensitive to the position of the eyes. I gifted this monocular to a friend shortly after purchasing it due to these issues. However, based on many reviews from others, including those who work in the field and in harsh environments, this monocular is very durable, so I didn't want to give it an unfairly low rating. Brightness and sharpness are really very good. just not the right article for me and what I'm looking for. If you have the opportunity, try to purchase this monocular first hand from a store or through a friend who may have it before hitting the buy button. I can still take the more compact 8x
