This dimmer takes a lot of effort to install. You may have trouble swapping the input (black) and output (red) live wires, as a 'normal' dimmer can work well with both, as the dimmer simply changes the pulse width, which works on both the input and the output . at the exit. . This is a relatively complex dimmer electrically, so the order matters. The instructions were good in terms of troubleshooting; If they are upside down, the dimmer just won't work. ADDED: There's also a 3-position switch: So for starters, this is one of the more complex FIVE wire setups. You need a neutral wire, usually white, which is often not used on a regular switch. It will be on a newly built house, but not on an older one. The wires in your wall can be different colors, in my case 2 black, white, red, green. The switch has white, blue, red, black and green. So no coincidence, but the instructions were very helpful in determining what was what. Went straight in and worked on the first try. Alexa integration was mostly automatic after using the Wemo app. I am very happy with it. The 3-way switch seems to have an improved willingness and work right after compared to the dimmer, which sometimes "overshoots" Alexa. You only need 1 switch for a 3-way chain. It connects perfectly with the app and you can choose between incandescent, compact fluorescent or LED bulbs and the dimmer is instantly calibrated to my LEDs. There are some current limitations, so you won't really be using 10 incandescent bulbs; 1-5 should be fine in almost all cases. I've also paired it with Alexa and Google Home with no issues. He worked as he should. Remember that the dimmer needs a "neutral" wire; This is usually the white line behind your wall (and the black line is the "hot" line). Most light switches don't really need this as they have an active input, output and ground (green wire). My old dimmer didn't use a neutral wire, and that line was kind of buried deep in the wall with no wires. I had to click on it to create one. It's not really a big deal, but you have to be aware of it. It says on the box so it's fair. It would probably be good to highlight this in the list as installing this dimmer as a replacement for a switch or a dimmer without a neutral lead to this being a 'moderate' task rather than an 'easy' task. Behavior, it gets lighter and darker as you toggle them on/off. I'd say it takes about 0.25 seconds to turn on full brightness and 0.5 seconds to go from full brightness to off. I wasn't expecting this, but it's normal and NOT like the first generation LED bulbs which had a noticeable turn on delay.
