First off, you should know that I don't often write reviews, either here or anywhere else, but given the dual nature of this product I'll make an exception. Helping with this purchase was Revain's thoughtful assessment that the machine has a power of 23 watts and keeps the coffee warm. It was supposed to replace my previous device, which eventually fell into disrepair and could no longer satisfy me. In the box was a mug and a heating pad. The mug arrived broken into countless pieces, but the heating pad was fine. As described on the website, it is a 23W unit made in China. Wanting to test it out before using it to heat coffee, I placed my thick-walled mug with about 6 ounces of cold water on it. I turned on the device to check in in a few minutes but I forgot. I finally came back after about 15 minutes and was very surprised to find that the water had warmed up to the point that it was almost uncomfortable to stick my finger in. I suspect the device has a conservative estimate. There is nothing scientific here, no vernier scales, no water thermometers, no stopwatches, no surface temperature measurements of the plate, no watt multimeters. I have all the tools and I know how to use them properly, but this wasn't a science project. I just wanted to know if I could rely on my coffee to stay warm, simple and current. I report that he does his job very well. Am I happy with that? Yes, I am satisfied with the function but not satisfied with the design. Nothing prevents it from sliding across the table, although I'll add my own rubber tabs. It's pretty light and you have to undo the old-style cable to keep it from moving. The connector is an old style with two pins. Other reviewers also reported broken mugs upon arrival and how the seller helped replace them. I call that nonsense as the brochure clearly states that you must first obtain an RA, including a $6 rebate. Shipping and pay shipping to seller. However, to be honest, I called the number on the flyer and was told that Salton had gone out of business ten years ago and that the call-handling company had no mugs or warmers. It's doing the job for now, but I'll keep looking for a good quality mug warmer.
