Review on πŸ—ΊοΈ Explore Australia & New Zealand: Garmin City Navigator NT (microSD/SD card) by Duane Hayes

A very good reason NOT to buy this on an SD card.

The maps are fine and I've certainly used them successfully, but if you want to continue using these maps to update them Garmin has told me that the SD cards cannot be updated but i need to buy new cards. And a quick $107 check for the latest maps makes me think that while Garmin SD maps are quick and easy to install and work with, they're a very expensive way to maintain maps if you plan to use them for a year . It might be better to buy a DVD instead, but it actually seems complicated to maintain. I like their hardware and firmware but I'm not impressed with their map updates. Here's a direct quote from Garmin: "Pre-programmed data cards: Pre-programmed data cards are ready to use. Simply unpack the map and insert it into a compatible GPS device. These maps don't need to be unlocked on your device, so you can move the map to multiple locations if you need to, but you don't have direct access to view it on your computer. 2. City Navigator maps in this format are not subject to format upgrades and display maps cannot be copied. content, you need to buy a new card.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • No performance
