Garmin Australia Maps

I currently live in Australia and rely heavily on my GPS with Australian maps. Except for one case where I was accidentally sent over the Sydney Harbor Bridge, it worked out well. Still evaluating as I have a few thousand miles to go before returning to the US.

Worked great in 2013

We drove it 7000 miles around Australia and New Zealand and it worked great! I knew I wouldn't be able to use my iPhone cards there because the internet is extremely expensive there and the network coverage on the street is very limited. I loved seeing how long it would take us to reach our next destination and how accurate the maps were. I cannot imagine a trip to these countries without the help of this SIM card.

so so. not recommended

I do not recommend purchasing this card for travel to Australia. We were in Australia for 3 weeks and visited Sydney, Alice Springs and Cairns. The maps weren't very accurate and sometimes told you to turn where there was no road. We had to plug in GPS but mostly had to rely on the tourist maps provided by almost every place we've been. Another problem in Sydney, less with the map than with GPS in general, is that it's difficult to get satellite reception in the narrow streets between all the…

The perfect travel guide for Australia

I bought this to use in my Garmin GPS and it worked great. I landed in Darwin late at night, put the map into the GPS and had directions to the hotel before exiting the rental lot. The guide thought everything was perfect, even deep in Kakadu National Park where I didn't expect it to work. The list of hotels was also a great help. The only mistake was in Brisbane when Key Street was listed as Key Street so I couldn't put in my hotel address. That's where the hotel guide came into play. I would…

It worked wonderfully!

I read the reviews before buying this card and was a bit skeptical. It connected straight to my Garmin Aera 500 and worked like a champ! Our holiday was in New Zealand so I can't say how accurate it is in Australia. The RV company offered us GPS rental and we declined to try my own. We left Auckland and drove to Cape Reinga, south to Bluff, everywhere in between and back! It has never let me down. Locating gas stations, campsites, attractions, banks, etc. was very easy. I highly recommend this…

Works great with sports and handheld GPS navigators

We got off the plane in Sydney after 20 hours on the plane and hardly slept. Barely through customs, we got our rental car - and suddenly we were standing downtown with a right-hand drive, everyone was driving on the wrong side of the road, jet lagged and had no idea how to do it. to get to your destination in the suburbs! I took out this chip, stuck it in our brand new Garmin Nuvi and prayed this thing would work! And so it was. I concentrated on staying on the left side of the road as the…

Accurate maps for my app

I just completed a 6 week business trip to Sydney and Canberra in Australia. These maps have been found to be approximately 99% accurate. From time to time I was sent out into the street where due to construction work the road was completely closed and inaccessible, but I'm sure that this development did not exist at the time the maps were made. Street names, distances or turn-by-turn directions were only inaccurate twice. The recalculation instructions were accurate when I had to find a new…

A very good reason NOT to buy this on an SD card.

The maps are fine and I've certainly used them successfully, but if you want to continue using these maps to update them Garmin has told me that the SD cards cannot be updated but i need to buy new cards. And a quick $107 check for the latest maps makes me think that while Garmin SD maps are quick and easy to install and work with, they're a very expensive way to maintain maps if you plan to use them for a year . It might be better to buy a DVD instead, but it actually seems complicated to…

Australia - yes. New Zealand - no.

We used maps of Australia in 2015 and then New Zealand in 2016. Australia did great. They took us everywhere with no problems. This year we got a new Garmin unit because the old one stopped talking (still could navigate but no sound - Garmin didn't help to fix the problem). When we put a card chip in a new Garmin, the device comes up with a message that the chip needs to be reformatted and all data on it will be lost. I called Garmin, they said as the chip is more than a year old they will not…
