Australia - yes. New Zealand - no.

We used maps of Australia in 2015 and then New Zealand in 2016. Australia did great. They took us everywhere with no problems. This year we got a new Garmin unit because the old one stopped talking (still could navigate but no sound - Garmin didn't help to fix the problem). When we put a card chip in a new Garmin, the device comes up with a message that the chip needs to be reformatted and all data on it will be lost. I called Garmin, they said as the chip is more than a year old they will not help in any way. I need to buy a new chip (about $150). Instead, I bought a blank chip, formatted it on a new Garmin, and then copied the old chip's file to the new chip. It worked. However, it was difficult to use the chip in New Zealand. He only knew street names, no addresses. If you were to search for nearby attractions, it would list many places but only state that they are attractions, not what they are. I ended up getting the coordinates of the places I wanted to visit from Google Maps, put them into Garmin, and then it guided me straight to my destination. Another problem: On the North Island, on the way from the Bay of Islands to Rotorua, the map did not show me a direct route. I could specify waypoints first, and that would then allow me to input and route to my final destination. Very annoying. Long story short, I've always liked Garmin, but the New Zealand offerings are subpar to say the least and the customer service is terrible.
