Okay, that's a rewrite. I initially gave a 1 star rating and started a tirade about the tool and how it is made in China and not square etc. Firstly, THIS TOOL IS MADE IN THE USA. Atol Massa to be exact. No, it doesn't say "Made in USA" anywhere, which still annoys me. But I called Starrett and spoke to a nice person who explained to me that they no longer have this rule because consumers from other countries don't like it. I don't like it, I understand (probably), but I don't like it. It also lets you guess and call the company to find out where it's made. Second, the first tool I got wasn't a square. It was from 1/64. This seems to be an anomaly as the replacement they send is SQUARE. I don't think that should ever happen in this price range. I deduct 2 stars for that. This was my first Starrett instrument and now my faith in the brand has been shaken from the start. The fit and finish is what you'd expect from an instrument that feels like a lifetime. Also very smooth, much better than my cheap combo squares I have. Maybe I'll come back and add a star if I fall head over heels in love with this instrument.
