Recently bought an old house with a main panel that was in poor but good condition. I'm obviously planning on replacing the main panel in the near future. In the meantime however the weather is changing so I have shifted all major loads to a brand new (reliable) auxiliary panel which can also be powered by a generator if required. I used a 90Amp main circuit breaker in the subpanel in combination with a 50Amp circuit breaker for the Genny, using a simple switch arrangement in between for electrical safety.
