Review on ๐Ÿฆ Penn-Plax Bird Life Starter Cage Kit โ€“ Includes Cuttlebone, Mineral Treat, Sand Perch Cover, Calcium Perch, and Toy Kabob โ€“ Assorted Sizes and Styles Offered by Ginny Gregory

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I think you get what you pay for but the quality of Penn Plax has gone down!

We bought 2 of these cages 5 years ago when we brought our kennel home. One the size of a parrot and one the size of the cockatiel she sleeps in. She spends a lot of time outside the cage. We needed a different travel cage so I figured I would get the same quality I ordered. Not the same at all! The overall construction doesn't feel as solid as the previous Penn Plax cages we've had. The cups are small, seems too small for a cockatiel, definitely too small for my green cheek, which is slightly smaller than Thiel. The way the feeding doors are placed at the bottom makes it difficult to place her toys and perches so she doesn't accidentally poop on her plate. We prefer to use stainless steel plates and brackets which we position on top of the cage - wooden perches sit freely. I replaced them with rope poles - sand poles don't even fit in the cage - The front door of my old cages has a latch and hook to securely latch the door. The way this new one works where the cage door snaps into the cage seems to be loosening up over time. In addition, the color is immediately erased. The feed doors don't close like they did in my old cage. No escaped artist bird benefits from this. Since we won't be using them, we're going to make them permanent somehow. As this is a cage we don't use regularly I keep and manage it. I would NOT recommend this cage as the main cage for your bird - invest in something more durable, safer and thoughtfully designed. It can serve well as a sleeping cage.
