I don't think this thing is accurate at all, let alone painful to use. We kayak a lot and fishing is a really big part of why we have kayaks in the first place so we decided to try our luck with this finder. It runs on AAA batteries, that's fine, but it's not waterproof at all, so as soon as the water got to the bottom and where the batteries go, it started to deteriorate, turning on and off, the backlight stopped working etc. You can change the depth between meters and feet but I don't think they were accurate as I went from 4ft to 10ft just by hovering in the same spot then it would tell you that more directly below than 10 feet you were fishing and you would never catch anything no matter what you use. So if you want to spend money on something that won't work if it gets even the slightest bit wet, it's not accurate and you'll be chasing fish everywhere according to the results and then KO yourself. Otherwise you just don't need it.
