After laying it down, I noticed that the floor around it (tile, hardwood) became slippery. I didn't notice the paint coming off, but it was clearly a slippery residue that came off when I walked on it. I washed it outside with dish soap (wiped and hosed down). It was still slippery. I applied Goo-gone to it with a nail brush and then wiped it off with a paper towel (after it was dry). The paper towels turned black. I then washed out the remaining slime on the outside with detergent. Everything seems fine now. But it was a lot of work. I love its design - I was looking for something that contained cat urine, not fluffy fibers, so I could clean it easily. (My cat likes to pee right outside the door!) Does the trick if you can handle other headaches (oh, and it also smells like tires (rubber) when you get it. Is it natural rubber or synthetic rubber? Smell doesn't know )
